Frequently Asked Questions
What is a Solid Vent Insert Kit?
Our Solid Vent Insert Kit is an optional add-on for customers who need higher humidity levels in their enclosure. The kit includes solid plastic strips designed to fit into the mesh vent spaces of your lid. They reduce airflow to help retain humidity and can be removed or adjusted anytime — no tools or permanent changes required.
What Thickness of Glass Should I Get?
We recommend using standard 3/32" glass. If you prefer something thicker, 1/8" glass also works well, but we don’t suggest going thicker than that, as the tabs will not hold securely. Both thicknesses are strong enough for everyday use while keeping the lid lightweight and easy to handle.
How Much Ventilation Is There?
Our lids are designed to provide balanced airflow — enough to allow proper gas exchange and prevent stale air, while still retaining humidity. The mesh sections at the front and back are built into the lid frame, offering steady, reliable ventilation without the risk of loose metal mesh.
Can You Drill Holes in the Acrylic?
We do not offer custom drilling in the acrylic. However, you’re welcome to drill your own holes if you find the built-in ventilation isn’t quite enough for your setup. Use a drill bit for plastic, go slowly, and support the back of the panel to avoid cracking.
What Is the Lid Made From?
Our lids are 3D printed using high-quality PETG plastic, which is durable, water-resistant, and designed to hold up in humid environments. The mesh is printed directly into the frame, so there are no sharp edges or parts that can pop out.
Can I Put a UV Lamp on the Lid?
No — UV light will not pass through glass or acrylic, as it’s almost completely filtered out.
Can I Place Lights on the Lid?
Low-heat lights such as LEDs are fine to place directly on the lid. Do not use high-heat or basking bulbs, as acrylic and glass both block heat poorly and can become unsafe. Prolonged heat exposure may also warp or damage the lid over time.
Will Fruit Flies Be Able to Get Through the Mesh?
No — the mesh openings are very fine, small enough to keep in fruit flies, pinhead crickets, and other tiny feeders, while still allowing healthy airflow.
Where Do I Get Glass?
You can buy glass at most local hardware stores or framing shops. Lowe’s will usually cut it to size for free. We recommend 3/32" glass, as it fits perfectly in the lid frame.
Be careful when handling — the edges can be sharp. A quick pass with fine-grit sandpaper will smooth them out safely.
